Why do people choose to participate in horrific events?
I think that people choose to participate in horrible events for many reasons. One of the reasons is that they think that they are doing the right thing because they are crazy. Another reason is that they may hate people from a certain group so they take the opportunity to harm them whenever they can. I also think that people do horrible things because they think that it will bring them up on the social scale so by hurting people they will gain money and power. People may also choose to participate because the government may have told them that they are doing the right so using misinformation they would be able to change how people think and feel.

In your opinion, what is the most effective way to overcome trauma?
A very effective way to overcome is to be in a support group and than you can talk about your feelings in a safe place. It is better to talk about traumatic experiences in a group of people who understand because they will have empathy for them and they will be able to get their feelings out. It is also important to learn to live with what happened so that it no longer keeps you up at night.

I agree with the idea that those who helped the Pinochet regime and those who benefited should be held responsible for what they did to some extent but if they did not know that they were having people killed because they were selling things to the government then they should not get in trouble. The call for justice connects to the call for forgiveness because when people own up to what they did the people who were hurt by them may be able to forgive them for what they have done. It will be very hard to forgive the people who did wrong if they did not have justice brought upon them. Chile's universe of obligation leaves people who have not said that they are responsible are outside of the UOO. People who still think that they did the right thing by helping pinochet are outside of the Universe of obligation.

The act of revolution that I saw was that they were rebelling against the destruction of memory. Digging up the bodies was an act of rebellion because they are trying to get back memory that the government tried to get rid of evidence that those people were alive. Another act of rebellion that I saw was the man who remembered every single part of the concentration camps so that he could show people what was happening the camps. The man who drew what happened in the concentration camps had a very effective way of protest because he could really show people what was happening.

I think that the two different missionaries show two sides of colonialism a side that maybe is a little bit nicer cares for people more a little bit more. In colonialism there were two sides to the sides to the colonists there were some nice ones and there were some mean ones. The two different missionaries serve the purpose of showing the two sides of colonialism. In the broader aspect of colonialism Achebe is showing the perspective of cultural diffusion with one side and cultural destruction with another.

Okonkwo thinks that the Ibo are responsible for the white men invading their land because when the white man first came they let them stay. He think that when the white man first arrived they should have not let them stay. Now that the white man has been there for a while many of the Ibo have converted to his religion and the clan is falling apart. I do not think that it is completely the Ibo's fault because they did not know that the white coming would be the beginning of the end for their way of life in the village. If the Ibo had known that the white man would bring an end to much of their society I do not think that they would have let them in.

The Infomercial that we did in class yesterday was a lot of fun. I enjoyed it because it was a group activity and we were allowed to be creative. I think that making an infomercial is helpful because we get to look at things in a different way.
Switching religions would be very challenging for someone because they would be leaving everything and everyone that they had ever known. It would also be challenging because when someone left their religion they were exiled and could no longer have contact with people that they loved. This would be very challenging for the larger community because when a new religion comes in the two religions could have conflict and wars could potentially break out.
